Episode 206: Publishing and Finding Your Joy

This week on Fable and the Verbivore, we’re doing something different and sharing a personal conversation that we had during our most recent recording session about our work.

When we record together, we often start by having a little personal conversation talking about our work and our lives. This conversation ended up digging in deeply with our current writing experiences — Fable as she’s been publishing work under a pen name and the Verbivore as she’s finally started to write again after an almost nine month dry spell.

We hadn’t originally intended to share it as an episode, but as we talked we felt it had some interesting things to say that might connect with or be encouraging to you all.

In this conversation, we talk about writing from a lot of different perspectives. Things like:

  • Listening when we are having difficulty doing something and letting our response help to guide our future choices

  • Leaning in to the things that make you come alive

  • Experimenting and trying things and noticing what works and what doesn’t

  • Choosing to do the thing that makes you excited, even if you don’t know if it will play or read

  • Asking yourself on a micro scale what brings joy — even during the day — and doing more of that

  • Reminding yourself and surrounding yourself with people who can help remind you why you do this

  • Noticing when things crack you open emotionally and digging in with them

Towards the end of our conversation, we talk about episodes that we’ve recently had and how powerful choosing to do the topics we are emotionally connected with has been for the podcast. We’re always proud of what we’ve created, but many that we’ve done over the last six months have been highly personal and enjoyable to us as creatives.

We hope you enjoy this episode and that it connects with you!

Keep reading, writing, and putting your voice out there!

Into the woods,
