Episode 170: Looking back of 2022

Today, Fable and the Verbivore are revisiting the specific writing goals and intentions that we set for 2022 and reflecting on the year that was.

For the Verbivore (Laura), the phrase for this last year was “feel your way through one step at a time.” It felt like this ended up being true both in writing and in life. The year included many moments that required connecting with the situation and instinctively checking in and adjusting. A major medical situation mid-year also helped teach how to notice the small things and work to give yourself things that are nourishing.

For Fable (Beth), her word for 2022 was “reframe” or “revision”. It was a year that included looking at and making changes to a variety of aspects of life – from work to relationships to identity. After several years of researching, part of the year was spent understanding and integrating a self-diagnosis of autistic. This knowledge and vocabulary helped lead to a better and new understanding of how her brain works - and some important unmasking and better able to verbalize her needs. It required a lot of the difficult work including disrupting the norm and adjusting expectations and relationships - just as revision in other aspects of our lives requires.

This year has also been a momentous one on the podcast - we’ve passed 150 episodes and have just closed out three years of podcasting. We’ve taught two $5 Writing Classes, added the podcast to Spotify, and opened our merch store.

We each had to allow our goals in writing and in life to shift and development throughout the year. So, as we close out this episode, we talk about changing the stories we tell ourselves about our accomplishments and focusing on and celebrating all the steps you’re making forward rather than where you may have fallen short.

We hope you enjoy this episode. Keep reading, writing, and putting your voice out there!

Into the woods,

Fable & The Verbivore
