Episode 220: Our words and intentions for 2024

For our first episode of 2024, Fable and the Verbivore are setting intentions for the year.

In this episode, we both discuss how hesitant and resistant we were to our initial thoughts and how we refined the concepts until we clearly had a vision for what we want to bring into 2024. But for both of us, we ended up feeling a little excitement/fear/uncertainty of that idea. This is also the fifth time we’ve engaged in this process, and we talk about how previous years words have helped us gain capacity and the skills to stretch into some uncomfortably new places.

For the Verbivore (Laura), the word “improvisation” — the act of making or doing something with whatever is available at the time — and the phrase “look for and embrace opportunities” felt intimidating but also exciting, challenging, and a natural progression to last years intentions. It involves the idea of being open, seeing failure as opportunity, and rejecting the comfortable in favor of growth and change.

For Fable (Beth), she first came up with the phrase “slow and steady” which felt a bit uncomfortable. After some word clouding, she settled into the ideas of sustainable, unhurried, diversified, and differentiated. This led to the feeling that if last year was a sprint for her, this year is a marathon — or better yet a triathlon that requires training in several different areas.

We both also set specific writing goals that we’re working towards but are holding loosely to allow for the possibility of changes in direction as the year unfolds. The Verbivore has several projects she wants to develop and wants to query. Fable plans to work towards building and defining her self-publishing brand and creating a range of new writing projects across a variety of genres.

We also have some exciting new things that we’re planning for the podcast this year and can’t wait to share them in the upcoming weeks!

We hope you enjoy this episode and that you take a moment to connect with your own hopes and intentions as we step into this brand-new year!

Keep reading, writing, and putting your voice out there!

Into the woods,

Fable & The Verbivore
